Presentation Designer:
Released on August 14th, 2020. In my role as Presentation Designer it was my responsibility to take the creative vision of our Career Mode and Presentation/Audio producers and design an engaging, interactive experience throughout the user’s career utilizing a social media system, branching conversations, and cut-scenes. I was also responsible for the implementation of these systems and ensuring each of them worked correctly in game.
Social Media System:
The social media system in UFC 4’s career mode was designed with the intention of creating a sense of the larger world of the UFC surrounding the user as they progress. This includes the reactions of fans, trolls, rivals, and UFC news outlets to specific events in the user’s career as well as other events that aren’t directly related to the user but could be relevant or interesting. It was then implemented by me, using a proprietary scripting tool and utilized content written primarily by an outsourced writer as well as myself.
Branching Conversations:
The branching conversations during a user’s career mode progression utilize social media and were designed with the intention of giving the user agency over their own career. It allows them to build up rivalries or friendships with other fighters which in tern affects whether future interactions, social media reactions, and cut-scenes are friendly or hostile. It is also used to give the user the ability to make critical choices for their career, such as which opponent to fight next, whether to accept a contract offer, whether to change weight-class, etc. This also was implemented by me using the same proprietary scripting tool utilizing content written primarily by an outsourced writer as well as myself.
Cut-Scenes:
Cut-scenes during Career Mode were crafted by the Presentation team, the design of which were a collaboration with producers and myself in order for the cut-scenes to support and emphasize what is happening in the social media system, branching conversations, and career progression as a whole. They were implemented by myself using the same proprietary scripting tool in order to closely align with the design of the social media system. This also included videos captured in game with accompanying captions written by me.
